The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress began on 5 September in Budapest. Pilgrims from nearly eighty countries of the world came to one of the largest meetings of the Catholic community, held every four years. Hungary is proud to organize the international congress for the second time in 83 years.

It is a great honour to announce that Pope Francis will also participate the Congress’ closing Mass on 12 September. The last time a pope participated in the international congress was 21 years ago in Rome, where Pope John Paul II was present. And the last occasion a pope came to Hungary was 25 years ago in 1996, when Pope John Paul II visited Pannonhalma and Győr.
